Virtual ‘Milliner in Residence’ for Virginia Gold Cup!

It was really wonderful to be approached by the organisers of the Virginia Gold Cup to be featured as their ‘resident milliner’ for the event which was crowdless this June. I was asked to produce a video to inspire and teach budding milliners of the East Coast USA about the basics of the hat making. I used ‘The Ascot’, my racy red saucer, to explain the use of hat blocks, different fabrics like sinamay, the blocking process and the finishing touches such as the trimmings. A hat contest was held and fans of the event were encouraged to watch the races online. It was a brilliant and innovative way of helping the virtual community feel part of the action. Search @virginiagoldcup on Instagram to check out the video and my Instagram link at the top of this page too. Looking forward to the Fall meeting of the Virginia Gold Cup already!
